Wet web runnability studies

KCL's pilot paper machine is a unique testing platform for wet web runnability studies. The wet web winder is located after press section and the winding of paper can be performed under controlled conditions i.e. speed differences – strain, web tension, and web breaks. Draw level and web tension are monitored through data acquisition coupled with a reporting system.

The paper machine's press section is also equipped with web adhesion analyzing sensors. The energy needed to release paper from a roll can be measured with specific displacement analysis method and the results can compared to other PM parameters.

Applications:

  • comparisons of furnish components
  • comparing the effects of LC-refining and screening to runnability
  • pulp treatment chemicals
  • fillers and filler treatment chemicals
  • wet end chemicals
  • internal sizing agents
  • retention aids

In fast stabilization of short circulation, trials are efficient and require modest amounts of pulp.
